Hello. I'm John Jackson and I'd like to tell you a bit about myself.

I live with my wife Eileen and our five Labradors in a little village in West Yorkshire called Emley. You can't miss it because we have a big television mast quite near which is visible for miles.

We have been in the dog game for over 20 years showing breeding and judging. I am on the Labrador Breed Council B list of judges and Eileen awards CCs in the breed. Both of us have been committee members of the Three Ridings Labrador Club for several years.

Before I became a professional photographer I was a mining engineer in the coal industry. I worked for 32 years in the industry and left in November 1994 just a month before it was privatised.

Since all my qualifications were in engineering I felt that to take on a new career I would have to get some other qualification. Therefore I went back to college in Leeds and did a 2 year part time City & Guilds course in Professional Photography Competencies. I was successful in all 11 competencies. I was then invited to do a B.Tech HND in Professional Photography but by now my new business was up and running so I just didn't have the necessary time to devote to it.

Nevertheless I have continually tried to improve my knowledge by attending courses on the latest technology. Digital photography is moving at such a pace that it is a continuous process to try and keep up with it all. I work almost exclusively in digital mode these days but I can still work with conventional film in both 35 mm and medium format.       

I began covering shows for OUR DOGS in 1996, starting with open shows and single breed championship shows and eventually general championship shows including Crufts. All the general championship shows in the country are covered for OUR DOGS by myself, Alan Walker and Bill Moores.

Although I am an OUR DOGS official photographer I do not restrict myself exclusively to dog shows and show dogs. I am available for all kinds of canine photography e.g. pets, advertising, events etc. Photographs can be supplied as prints (framed if required), on CD or DVD, e-mail or ready to go straight onto a web site.
